Transmission Electron Microscopic Study on the Uterine Develepment of Fetuses and Neonates in Korean Native Goats

Abstract
The development of uterus in fetuses on 60, 90 and 120 days of gestation and neonates of Korean native goats were investigated by transmission electron microscopy.
The results were summarized as follows ;
1. In the 60-day-old fetuses, goblet cells and many microvilli on the luminal epithelium of the fetal uterus were appeared and large amount of glycogen particles, mitochondria, rERs, free ribosomes, centrioles, intercellular junction complex, including tight junction and desmosomes in the endometrial epithelium were observed.
2. Mitochondria, rERs, free ribosomes and Golgi apparatus in the mucosal epithelium of the uterus in the 90-day-old fetuses had well developed. Accumulated glycogen particles were observed in the sub- and supranuclear portion of the cytoplasm, and the nucleolei were observed conspicuously.
3. In the 120-day-old fetuses, many vacuoles, functional complexes, large intercellular space, long epithelial cells, irregularly indented nuclei, many mitochondria, large amounts of free ribosomes, and lysosomal granules on the epithelium of the uterus were well observed. Many microvilli in the uminal epithelium were well developed. The tight junction of apex portion, collagenous fibers and fibroblasts under the basement membrane were observed.
4. In the neonates, the organelles of the epithelial cells in the endometrium were more developed than those of 120-day-old fetuses.
5. The uterine epithelia in the 60-, 90-, and 120-day-old fetuses and neonates were stratified columnar epithelium, and was poorly appeared also pseudostratified columnar or simple columnar epithelium at neonates. The cilliae of these cells were not found.
